The mission of the Mahwah Township Recreation Department is to coordinate the recreational activities within the township. In cooperation with the Recreation Committee, the Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters, the Mahwah Board of Education, and the Mahwah Department of Public Works, the Recreation Department oversees the efficient and safe use of public areas that are maintained for purpose of:
- Community events
- Passive recreation
- Picnic areas
- Walking paths
- Youth, high school, and adult sports
The Recreation Director develops the schedule for recreational and sporting events on township owned fields. The priority use of fields is scheduled by the Recreation Director. View a copy of the Recreation Department Handbook (PDF).
The Recreation Director does not organize youth sports teams. The Township of Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters handles registration, team/coach assignments and game/practice schedules. Visit the Township of Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters Website. You can find contact information for the Sports Boosters on their website.
If you are interested in becoming a coach or assistant coach for the youth program, you must take the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. class and go through a background check prior to the season starting.
