1. How can I become a junior fireman in Mahwah?

Mahwah has both Explorer and Junior Fireman programs. The Explorer program begins at age 14 and the Junior Fireman program begins at age 16. Most Explorers continue into the Junior program and once they reach the age of 18 they are eligible to apply to become a full time firefighter. Applications for both programs are available at any Mahwah firehouse Wednesday evenings between the hours of 7:30 and 9 pm.

2. I'm interested in becoming a fireman in Mahwah. What are the steps necessary to do so?

In order to become a fireman in Mahwah, you must:

• Be 18 years of age
• Be a Mahwah resident for 6 months or longer
• Submit an application (including a physical exam)
• After the application is approved, attend the Fire Academy

Applications can be picked up at any Mahwah firehouse on Wednesday nights between 7:30 and 9:30 pm.
